Dr Costas Papageorgiou began his higher academic education
and training at the
University of Buckingham
where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in
Psychology with Biology. Whilst studying at the University
of Buckingham, he conducted research into memory and
thinking processes in diabetes.
Dr Papageorgiou later obtained a Master of Arts (MA) degree
in Applied Psychology at the
University of Liverpool where he carried out research
examining body-focused attention and death beliefs in health
anxiety.
He remained at the University of Liverpool to complete a
3-year clinical psychology training programme, which
culminated in the professional degree award of Doctor of
Clinical Psychology (DClinPsychol). During his clinical
training, Dr Papageorgiou undertook placements in a number
of National Health Service hospitals and clinics in the
North West of England.
In particular, he completed specialist clinical training in
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT),
and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Whilst training to become a clinical psychologist, Dr
Papageorgiou carried out research testing and investigating
a new psychological theory and treatment of social
phobia/anxiety.
Subsequently, Dr Papageorgiou embarked on further extensive
clinical research at the
University of Manchester,
where he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy
(PhD) in Clinical Psychology. This research focused on
testing a new psychological theory and treatment of negative
thinking processes or rumination in depression.
Dr Papageorgiou is a
Chartered Clinical Psychologist (CPsychol)
of the British Psychological Society as well as a
Chartered
Scientist (CSci) of the Science Council. He is also a
member of national and international professional bodies and
associations, including the
Division of Clinical Psychology
of the
British Psychological Society
(DCP/BPS)
and the
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive
Psychotherapies (BABCP).
