Dr Costas Papageorgiou provides a specialist psychological
clinic at two locations in the North West of England:
The
Abbey Sefton Hospital
in Crosby, Merseyside and
The Priory Hospital Altrincham in Cheshire.
The clinic offers expert and consultant-level psychological

severe, recurring or persistent and have not responded well
to, or fully benefited from, other courses of treatment such
as previous psychological interventions and medication.
These problems include:
Dr Papageorgiou closely adheres to the clinical guidelines
produced by the
National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the most
recent developments in psychological treatments. NICE is “an
independent organisation responsible for providing national
guidance on promoting good health and preventing and
treating ill health” for healthcare professionals working in
the National Health Service in England and Wales. Clinical
guidelines are recommendations for good practice. The
guidelines produced by NICE are prepared by groups of
healthcare professionals, patients, carers and their
representatives, and scientists. The groups look at the
evidence available on the best way of treating a condition
and make recommendations based on this evidence.
The main focus of the clinic is on conducting thorough and
comprehensive psychological assessments and delivering
scientifically proven intensive treatments as well as new
and emerging effective interventions, some of which Dr
Papageorgiou has been involved in researching, implementing,
and evaluating (see also
Experience and
Publications).
The results of the assessment will help to guide the best
choice of treatment, which is carefully and sensitively
planned to address the needs of the individual. In addition
to specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Eye Movement
Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), the clinic offers
Schema Therapy (ST) and Metacognitive Therapy (MCT). Dr
Papageorgiou is able to provide a specialist psychological
clinic because of his
Qualifications and
Experience.
Dr Papageorgiou offers a professional and confidential
service that is regulated by the
British Psychological Society (BPS) every year and
closely adheres to the Society’s Good Practice, Code of
Conduct, and Ethical guidelines. Dr Papageorgiou is also

be assessed with the view of receiving specialist
